Editors Welcome

Welcome to the OCTOBER edition of The OUTSOURCER.

Finally, a politician tells it as it is. In the article in the Regional Roundup below John Howard, the Australian PM says, "Just as this country wants the advantages of globalization, so it should be that it must accept that part of the globalized world is a much freer flow of information." There is no doubt that the media climate has changed from the radical naysayers to a more considered view of outsourcing and off shoring.

Joining us as a contributor this month is Andrew Cronan, a Director at The Spencer Partnership. Andrew is examining Latent Capacity, a much over looked step that should be considered as part of any outsourcing strategy.

With a view to making the whole market search process easier FooBooOnLine is pleased to announce a new service called FooBooOnLine Access. It will allow outsource service providers, consultants, trainers, systems integrators, and communications systems providers to represent themselves to clients around the world including and especially the USA, UK, Singapore, and Australia markets. Theses specialist firms sort through lists, make and confirm qualified appointments and supply daily reports with extensive details about the prospects. In many cases the finance broker simply shows up to close the deal.

There is a better way to service customers

“There has to be a better way!” How many times have we heard this exclamation in our lives? In all things, we struggle to improve, change and evolve. This is human. But for our industry, the nature of survival is to substantially address the concerns of our stakeholders. The stakeholders for us include investors, consumers, regulators and elected officials.

Identifying Latent Capacity

Typically, most organizations have a latent capacity of 20-30%. This is in addition to any capacity that is visible or acknowledged and applies to companies small and large and regardless of the nature of the business. A statement like this is naturally greeted with skepticism in the first instance. There are many well run businesses that have the best staff, loyal customers, great products and the latest systems that refuse to believe there could be such an opportunity.

Outsourcing: Get used to it, Howard tells Australian

Search for skills goes global

INDIA, Indians and Indian services companies have been getting plenty of stick in the Australian press lately, grappling with the issues of what to do with workers whose jobs can be done more cheaply and efficiently overseas.

CIOs Prefer Multi-Vendor Outsourcing

45% respondents of the survey conducted by Patni prefer leveraging multiple vendors for specific project requirements with work competitively distributed, as opposed to 17% favoring global deals with a single service provider. The survey also revealed the Global CIO's vision on IT Strategy & Outsourcing, Investments & Initiatives, and Customer-Vendor Relationship.

A step ahead

Many might be still trying to get used to the term BPO (Business Process Outsourcing) — here's a new one: KPO (Knowledge Process Outsourcing). As per a NASSCOM survey, the KPO industry will grow by 45 per cent by 2010 AD.

Aussie bank Westpac may move 300 jobs to India
